Labor & Delivery

Journal entry by Megan Halligan — Jan 7, 2018

Saturday December 30th

We went into Salem Hospital and began induction early in the afternoon. I labored throughout the afternoon, took a dinner break and switched to Pitocin. I continued to labor throughout the night. We thought things were going well until our doctor broke the news I was only dilated to 1cm. The doctor was very encouraging and after a break and light breakfast we picked things up again. Our doctor went off duty and the new doctor took over. She was wonderful and as the day drew on my contractions grew stronger and stronger.

Around 7 in the evening the doctor informed us that I was still only dilated to 1 cm. Even though my contractions were working without any medication my body just wasn't prepared to give birth to our daughter. At this time a c-section was recommended and scheduled.

Dorothy was born Sunday December 31, 8:24 pm. She weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and was 20 inches long. Praise God for her!!
